The Race on the River is a vibrant annual dragon boat festival held on the East River in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. Scheduled for July 18–19, 2025, this event marks its 22nd anniversary, bringing together over 25 teams from local businesses, community organizations, and beyond to compete in spirited 250-meter races. Originating in 2002, the Race on the River was inspired by co-founder Roger Swarbrick after his wife participated in a dragon boat race in Charlottetown. Recognizing the potential for a safer and more community-centric event, Swarbrick helped establish the festival in New Glasgow, which has since grown into a cherished local tradition.
